All About Me

I received my Masters in Education from Texas State University and am a certified school counselor in the state of Texas. Currently, I am working under the supervision of Karen R. Burke to earn hours toward my license as a professional counselor.

In addition, I earned my Bachelor's Degree from Pace University and my Masters in Elementary Education from Fordham Univeristy. I have been in education for many years having taught Prek- 2nd grades and hold elementary teaching certifications in New York and Texas.

I'm also the proud mother of three wonderful children - two who have now flown the coop. Some of the greatest lessons I've learned about children, and child development, have come from raising my own children.

Philosophy

I believe each child possesses his/her own unique characteristics including personality and temperament, as well as innate strengths and weaknesses. When we nurture the whole child, including their intellectual, social and emotional growth, we help equip him/her with the skills and tools needed to become responsible, self-sufficient, emotionally healthy individuals prepared to navigate successfully through the many different journeys he/she will experience in life.

As a school counselor my role is to help students successfully navigate through their educational journey. This has as much to do with their intellectual learning as it does with their social/emotional well being. I feel fortunate to be a member of the RSES community and value my role as a support to students, parents and staff. If you have a particular concern about your child I welcome the opportunity to talk with you. Please feel welcome to call me at 512-465-6203 or email me at joann.dono@dsisd.txed.net.

"...We are all personalities that grow and develop as a result of our experienes, relationships, thoughts, and emotions. We are the sum total of all the parts that go into the making of a life."
